How Car Dealerships Sell More on Haraj: A Practical Guide

What makes a car listing sell on Haraj — from the headline, photos, and price to how fast you answer enquiries, which is the biggest factor and the most neglected.

How Car Dealerships Sell More on Haraj: A Practical Guide

Haraj is still the largest used-car marketplace in Saudi Arabia, and nearly every dealership is on it. The difference between a showroom selling ten cars a month and one selling thirty from roughly the same listings usually isn't price. It's two things: listing quality, and how fast you answer the people who get in touch.

Everyone knows the first. The second is where most dealerships bleed without noticing.

First: the listing that attracts serious enquiries

The headline decides most of it. Buyers scan dozens of listings a minute and read only the headline. Make it specific: make, model, year, mileage, and one standout detail. "Camry 2021 full option 68,000 km — agency maintained" beats "very clean Camry" every time, because it answers the buyer's questions before they ask.

Photos separate browsers from buyers. Eight photos minimum: front, rear, both sides, interior front and back, the odometer, and the engine. Shoot in daylight, somewhere clean. And most importantly: photograph the flaws. The scratch you hide will be found at the viewing, and it will cost you the buyer's trust in everything else you said.

The description answers before it's asked. Every missing detail is either another message you have to reply to, or a buyer who scrolls past. Include real mileage, paint condition, inspection status, service history, reason for selling, whether you accept a trade-in, and whether the price is negotiable. Clarity reduces the time-wasters and increases the serious enquiries.

Price. A listing without a price collects the curious, not buyers. If you negotiate, publish the price and add "negotiable" — transparency brings the people who can actually afford it.

Second: timing and renewal

Haraj activity concentrates in the evening, particularly after Isha prayer, and on weekends. Post then, not mid-workday. Renew your listings regularly, since a listing that sinks down the page effectively disappears. But don't overdo it, and don't repost the same car back to back — that pattern damages your reputation and irritates users.

Third: replies — where the sale is won or lost

This is the heart of it. A Haraj buyer doesn't message one dealership, they message five or six in the same sitting. Whoever answers first starts the real conversation; whoever answers two hours later walks in on a buyer already negotiating with someone else.

And their questions are entirely predictable:

  • Is the car still available?
  • What's your best price?
  • Do you accept a trade-in?
  • What's the real mileage? Any repainted panels?
  • Where is the showroom, and when can I see it?
  • Do you offer instalments or financing?

Six questions, repeated hundreds of times a month. A salesperson who spends the day answering them by hand has nothing left for the person who is actually ready to buy.

A car isn't sold to whoever liked it most. It's sold to whoever got an answer fastest.

Example. A Dammam dealership received around eighty enquiries a day across four different numbers, answered by three salespeople at scattered hours. Messages arriving after 9pm — Haraj's peak — were read the next morning. After switching on instant replies that handled the six questions and booked the viewing, weekly viewing appointments rose noticeably with no increase in listings or staff. The entire difference came from the hours the showroom had been silent.

Fourth: from enquiry to viewing

The goal of every Haraj conversation isn't to close the sale in chat, it's to book a viewing. Nobody buys a used car sight unseen, so any message that doesn't move toward an appointment is a wasted one.

Make the path explicit: answer the question, confirm the car is available, then propose a specific time. "It's available, here at the showroom on King Fahd Road. Does today after Asr work, or tomorrow morning?" beats "feel free to visit any time" by a wide margin.

Fifth: the follow-up nobody does

Most people who enquire don't buy the same day — they compare, consult, and postpone. Dealerships forget them entirely. A single message two days later — "the car's still here, and I'm happy to arrange a viewing whenever suits you" — recovers a meaningful share of people who would otherwise vanish.

That follow-up is impossible by hand across dozens of daily enquiries, and trivial when it's automatic.

Fix your listings first — it's free and the effect is immediate. Then look at your silent hours: how many enquiries reach your showroom after closing? In most Gulf dealerships those hours carry more than half the enquiries and the lowest response rate of the day.

Kasbly answers buyer enquiries around the clock, responds with details from your own inventory, books viewings, and follows up with the people who haven't decided.
